Uncle Ebo Whyte and his team at Roverman Productions on Sunday, June 21, 2020, held Ghanaians spellbound with their first-ever virtual play, “The Day Dad Came.”
The play, which was streamed live via his youtube channel, was dedicated to fathers and also to support the fight against Covid-19.
The sheer number of patrons who watched online was a clear indicator that theatre-loving Ghanaians had indeed missed the live experience due to the restrictions put in place towards the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
"The Day Dad Came' told the story of Ama Forson Osei, a woman who was in an abusive marriage but hid it because she did not want people to know the truth. On her birthday, her sister chanced upon her being treated in an abusive manner by her husband
The shock of it forced her to report to their father, who came to set the ball rolling for a rollercoaster of revelations and resolutions.
There were two shows at 4 pm and 8pm, with both recording over 7 thousand people watching per show.
The comments section of each play also came alive as people shared various opinions on marriage, relationship, and family. This added extra excitement to the live-stream sessions.
At the end of it all, Uncle Ebo who was presented with a cake for being an amazing father-figure to the team thanked the viewers for staying for the over two-hour show.
He indicated that there was more coming, and encouraged viewers to spread the word and subscribe to his various social media platforms.
