The North East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has called for unity in the party after the parliamentary primaries Saturday.
Fuseini Nurudeen in a statement issued on Friday ahead of the elections entreated all candidates that will be elected to extend friendly overtures to their contenders to bring massive victory to the party in the general election.
He also commended the aspirants for "peaceful and decorous campaigns, and appealed for peaceful collaboration between party members and other stakeholders to ensure free, fair elections.
Elections in three constituencies
The elections tomorrow would be held in three constituencies out of the six in the region, namely; Nalerigu/Gambaga, Walewale and the Bunkprugu constituencies.
The Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hajia Alimah Mahama, who is running for a third bid, is being challenged by two other candidates in the Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency.
In the Walewale constituency, five candidates, including two women, would face off with Deputy Agric Minister, Dr. Sagre Bambang.
Dr. Sagre is faced with big names such as a Deputy CEO of the Northern Development Authority, Hajia Lariba Abudu, Presidential staffer, Seth Boyoyo and a Board Member of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Susan Alo Aga.
The North East Regional Minister, Solomon Namlit Boar is being contested by three people in the Bunkprugu constituency.
In all, about 1744 delegates are expected to vote among the 13 aspirants.
Accusations, Dismissal and Tension
There have been tensions, particularly in the Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency after some aspirants traded counter allegations against themselves on campaign platforms.
For instance in Gambaga constituency, one aspirant, Peter Wuni Baaga, a former District Chief Executive, was suspended, disqualified and sacked from his work after he accused the incumbent MP, Hajia Alimah Mahama, of election fraud and sabotage.
The disqualification has led to demonstrations, boycotts and defections against the MP and the party.
Other aspirants have suggested Hajia Alimah was engaged in vote buying.
In the Walewale constituency, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority, Hajia Lariba Abudu is being accused of using the Authority's resources to influence delegates to vote for her.
The CEO is said to have shared over one thousand tricycles to delegates and/or their relatives across the constituency.
Nalerigu/Gambaga a flashpoint - Police
Meanwhile, Police in the region have expressed readiness for tomorrow's parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic party.
The regional command has identified the Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency as the flashpoint where security presence would be enhanced.
