The value chain of the hospitality sector is set to receive a boost following the easing of restrictions by the President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on May 31, 2020.

Restaurants can now operate and welcome dine-in guests but must maintain strict safety protocols to safeguard their staff and customers as Ghana continues the fight to limit the spread of Covid-19.

Nhyira Addo illustrates how this easing could trigger economic activity that will impact positively on the Ghanaian economy.

Restaurants will have to buy raw materials to prepare the offerings on their menus, with the producers of the food crops seeing a buoyed demand and transport operators being called upon to cart food to the markets.

The staff now get a recall back to work and will also be in line to receive tips from their customers which can be applied to expenditure or savings which wasn’t possible under a locked-down economy.

This positive outlook is a welcome development but everyone in the chain has a role to play to ensure that the gains are not fast eroded by the spread of disease.
