Deputy Health Minister, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye says government is likely to ease the Covid-19 restrictions on movement by end of May 2020.
According to him, guidelines are being developed for a possible return to a semblance of normalcy after months of restrictions were instituted to contain the spread of the virus.
“By the end of this month, we would have prepared guidelines for public places like the churches, schools etc. to guarantee the safety of all,” he said.
Dr. Okoe-Boye indicated that government’s decision to ease the restrictions will be based on the rates of infections and recoveries as well as the number of Covid-19 patients who are on admission in hospitals.
Speaking to host of Prime Morning Show, Daniel Dadzie on Joy Prime, the Deputy Health Minister who is also Ledzokuku MP said Ghana has so far had one of the lowest rate of Covid-19 admissions.
Dr. Okoe-Boye urged individuals to continue to strictly adhere to the safety protocols such wearing of face masks in public, regular washing of hands with soap under running water and avoiding mass gathering.
President Akufo-Addo last week began stakeholder-engagement to ensure the safety of citizens while allowing economic activities when restrictions are lifted.
Already, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Transport Sector, Employers Association, Education and Sporting communities have all been engaged.
But as government contemplates lifting restrictions; some health experts have asked the state to tread cautiously as Ghana begins to experience community spread.
