Waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd, continues with its voluntary mass disinfection exercise as it takes the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-inspired programme to the Action Chapel International and Regional Maritime University on May Day.
The disinfection began on Friday morning was undertaken by some 40 personnel of the waste management giant as part of Zoomlion Ghana’s support of national efforts to fight the coronavirus.
The company used equipment such as motorised spraying machines, Phoenix fogger machines (car-mounted), Knapsack spraying machines, hand thermal fogger machines among others for the spraying exercise.
With the exercise completed at the Tema campus of the Regional Maritime University, Zoomlion has achieved the laudable feat of disinfecting all 11 public universities in Ghana at no cost to the government.
Also, six private universities and a dozen other institutions have been disinfected at no cost to the owners of the facilities.
Action Chapel
The disinfection exercise on Friday began at the Spintex headquarters of Action Chapel International and continued at its Tema Roundabout branch, the Christ Church Cathedral.
Speaking to journalists after the disinfection exercise, Resident bishop of the Prayer Cathedra, Ebenezer Obodai, said it was important for every institution that admits a large number of people to disinfect in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and even after that.
“Living in the world, it is the new normal. With the outbreak of the coronavirus, that is devastating the whole world, it is important that everybody takes protection, with the right practices, and ensure not only our [Action Chapel] but also other members of the public who use the place. It is necessary,” said Bishop Obodai.
He said members of the church must feel safe when the ban on public gathering is lifted and church service resumes.
Regional Maritime University
At the Regional Martime University, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Elvis Nyarko, commended Zoomlion Ghana for the exercise.
He also said the disinfection was crucial for the fight against the virus and to remove fears among students that the campus was contaminated.
Zoomlion Ghana Ltd has already disinfected institutions such as the Dworwulu Special School, Akuapem Akropong School for the Blind, Mampong School for the Deaf, the Judicial Service and the Ghana School of Law among others free of charge.
Also, the University of Ghana (UG), University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), the Accra Technical University, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), some banks and oil companies among others have been disinfected at a subsidised cost.
