The Central Tongu District assembly has bemoaned the increasing trend of open defecation, despite measures to mitigate it in the locality.
It comes as residents of Adidome have turned the local Evangelical Presbyterian Church and schools premises into a public toilet and refuse dump site.
The land is almost the size of half of a normal football pitch.
Frustrated by the unpleasant smell, members of the church, pupils and residents who live nearby, have complained of the troubles they endure.
Speaking to Joy News, some residents expressed their frustrations in seeking solutions to their predicament.
The residents say something urgent must be done about the issue especially, in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Head Pastor of the Adidome EP Church, Emmanuel Katsekpor, said the situation until now, has affected church activities as it poses great danger to members and pupils.
“It is unfortunate that some people in the community are using this premise for a place of convenience, which is affecting both the school and the church.
“So we have involved the Assembly to help us stop people from using this place for such unacceptable behaviour. And they have assured us of helping us.”
Authorities at the Central Tongu District Assembly are unhappy about the development.
Chief Executive, Thomas Moore Zonyrah, says despite the assembly doing enough to end open defecation, the practice still exists.
Mr Zonyrah however, announced further plans to tackle open defecation in the area, including the provision of more toilet facilities.
He stressed the need for residents to have an attitudinal change to issues of sanitation and hygiene in the district
