A New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for Ketu South, David Tiano, has donated food and assorted items worth over ¢40,000 to the aged in the area.
The items included bags of maize, 1500 packs of mosquito coil, 750 boxes of matches, among others.
Mr Tiano said the donation is meant to support the vulnerable, especially those struggling to survive due to the closure of the Ghana-Togo border.
He also called on government to reach out to residents in border towns to bring relief to them during these times.
"I am also adding my voice to the calls being made by residents in my constituency and beyond to ask government to quicken efforts towards the provision of such relief items that can sustain them," he said.
“It's not everyone that needs support but there are people who are less resourced especially at this time and so, we continue to pray that government runs to their rescue before it is too late," the Parliamentary candidate added.
Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the Adafienu Electoral Area, David Egloh said the Ketu South Municipal Assembly is collating data on persons who may be in need of help.
According to him, "there are people who also mend fishing nets at the shores but the recent pandemic has taken them out of job as well and so they've also come to add to the numbers that need some support at the moment."
The closure of the Ghana-Togo border has brought untold hardship on people whose livelihood depended heavily on trading activities at the border.
President Nana Akufo-Addo shut the nation’s borders on March 22, 2020 to reduce the escalating rate to coronavirus infections in the country,
This ban was extended by another two week starting Sunday, April 5, 2020, following the review of the previous directive.
