Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has wished all Muslims in the country and around the world well as they begin to fast in the month of Ramadan.
"May Allah accept our sacrifices and grant us and our nation His infinite grace and mercy," he said in a tweet Friday after the moon has been sighted.
Muslims worldwide started observing fasting and doing a lot of Quranic recitation in honour of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan.
Muslims during the 30-day fast will devote themselves to Allah through prayers, fasting and giving alms.
This year's fasting will be very different for Muslims worldwide due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

An occasion of getting together to pray, share knowledge, food and communal love has been affected as WHO recommends social distancing to avoid catching the virus.
Advising Muslims, Dr Bawumia said, "During this month of devotion, let us continue to observe all the Covid-19 preventive measures, and also pray to Allah to save Ghana and the world from this affliction."
He also prayed for Allah "to accept our sacrifices and grant us and our nation His infinite grace and mercy."
