Nutrifoods Ghana, producers of Tasty Tom, an enriched tomato mix used in homes across Ghana, has donated a consignment of tomato products to the Chefs Association of Ghana in support of its programme of providing meals for frontline health workers engaged in the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
Under the auspices of the government of Ghana and in partnership with some private organisations including Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, the Chefs Association of Ghana launched the “Cooking to Save Lives” programme to deliver free cooked meals to health workers on duty during the pandemic and also to vulnerable groups affected by the partial lockdown of the country.
Nutrifoods Ghana is supporting the initiative with a donation of 400 kilograms of Tasty Tom enriched tomato products to help the chefs prepare 6,000 tasty meals. Other key sponsors of the programme are Wilmar Africa Limited and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
“Cooking to Save Lives” was conceived to acknowledge and bring some relief to the staff of health facilities in the frontline of the national effort to contain the pandemic and prevent it from spreading nationwide. The initiative also targets vulnerable groups in Accra who are hardest hit by the lockdown.
The programme took off on March 31, 2020, with the distribution of 600 packs of food to various health centres in the Greater Accra region including the Ridge Hospital, the Ga-East Municipal Hospital and the Ghana Police Hospital.
Ten thousand (10,000) packages of cooked food have been earmarked for delivery to the target groups in the first phase of the programme and according to a source close to the executive committee of the Chefs Association, the distribution will be scaled-up gradually to peak at 20,000 packages of food in total.
“Tasty Tom has a long-standing relationship with the Chefs Association of Ghana but this time, we are exceptionally proud to be their major partner in such a noble humanitarian effort because healthy nutrition and a strong immune system are effective tools in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic,” Miss Ewuresi Krampa, Brand Manager for Tasty Tom told reporters.
Nutrifoods Ghana is an FSSC (Food Safety System Certification Scheme) accredited food producer and the first food manufacturing facility in the sub-region to earn international recognition in food safety standards.
