The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye says his outfit will probe why workers in some health facilities still do not have Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

At a press briefing on Wednesday, the Director-General noted that there has been a significant dispatch of PPEs to various regions, therefore, the Service is concerned about the numerous complaints about PPEs from the various regions.

“As it was mentioned a significant amount of PPEs have been shared, so we will follow up and find out why some hospitals do not have them.

“Because we have increased the number of PPEs that have been distributed nationwide,” he stated.

Several health workers in the country have complained about inadequate supply of PPEs including Ankaful Leprosy/General hospital, Cape Coast Metro Hospital, Twifo Praso and some others in the Volta Region.

And with a global shortage of PPEs, President Nana Akufo-Addo in his fifth televised address announced that the local production of PPEs will begin on April 7, as the surest way for the country not to run out of the products.

The Ghanaian garment manufacturing companies are to locally produce face masks, medical scrubs, hospital gowns and head gears using fabrics from ATL, Volta Star Textiles and GTP.

Moreover, the Chinese government and the co-founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Ma have supported Ghana and other African countries with protective suits as a means to protect health workers and curb the spread of the virus.
