Deputy Health Minister-designate, Dr Benard Okoe-Boye, has called upon enforcers of the current lockdown to put out a clear communication on whether burials can be organised during the period.
“We must look at a clear communication that will make people bury their loved ones but in compliance with social distancing and strict hygienic protocols,” Dr Okoe-Boye proposed.
The doctor who is also a member Covid-19 communications team said he is unaware of the exact directive on funeral events in this era.
“The directive is not too clear with the people on the ground as to whether they can bury their dead in normal numbers, with less than 25 people or whether they can bury at all,” he told Parliament's vetting panel on Wednesday.
On March 15, 2020, President Addo-Addo announced a ban on all public and social gatherings in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The President said in his televised address, however, that private funerals will be permitted if there are no more than 25 people in attendance.
However, this ban has been extended for another two weeks after the president signed the Executive Instrument (EI) imposed under EI 64 and EI 65.
Meanwhile, the Director of Operations at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command recently outlined steps to be taken by people who want to travel for burials during the lockdown.
