Slum-dwellers at the Old Fadama who were affected by Tuesday’s fire outbreak have called on government, NGO and the general public to assist them with some relief items.
In an interview with Joy News a day after the inferno, victims said they have lost all their properties in the fire and are yet to find food to eat.
They added that their destroyed structures have rendered them homeless hence many of them have been forced to sleep beside gutters whilst others kept loitering around throughout the night.
“This place is our market and home as well, so since we have lost everything in the fire...we do not have anything and nowhere to turn. So we really need government’s help especially during this lockdown,” Sulley Adul Raman said.
Another victim added, “We had to endure the mosquitoes all night. And some of us have not eaten since yesterday.”
The residents said neither National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) nor the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) officials have come to their aid since the incident.
The victims further indicated that they want government to provide them with relief items and also assist them to rebuild their structures.
A ravaging fire that started on around 2 am on Tuesday, destroyed over 800 wooden structures at Old Fadama.
Thus, loss of several properties worth hundreds of Ghana cedis. The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown.
