Ghana Non-Communicable Disease Alliance (GNCDA) is urging citizenry not to lose sight of non-communicable disease in the wake of Covid-19.
The alliance wants equal attention given to the treatment and management of non-communicable diseases such as cancers, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, sickle cell disease, mental health disease among others.
Chairperson of the Alliance, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, urged persons living with non-communicable diseases not to relent in their efforts in adhering to their treatment schedules prescribed by medical experts.
GNCDA says it is important much attention is paid to them because they are more likely to be infected by the novel coronavirus considering their underlying health condition.
"As said by WHO, those with weak immune systems stand the greater risk of battling the novel Covid-19; but a stronger immune system will be an advantage in these times," she said.
Against this backdrop, the GNCDA has reminded all persons with non-communicable health conditions to adhere religiously to taking their medications.
"It is important to note that Covid-19 came to meet all the other ailments and may vanish while the others still exist," Dr Wiafe Addei added.
Sticking to prescriptions, she said, is the surest way of living life without being killed by a disease that could otherwise have been managed.
