Speaker of Parliament, Mike Oquaye says it was God who directed the President to cause the quarantining of persons who arrived from abroad on Saturday night, out of which about 30 coronavirus patients have been identified so far.
Parliament on Wednesday spent an hour and seven minutes praying to God to heal Ghana of the novel coronavirus.
Muslim and Christian prayers were said in the House.
Prof. Oquaye prayed for exceptional wisdom for the president and his team.
“The wonderful finger of God directed the President, soldiers had been prepared, vehicles prepared, hotels prepared without any public funfair. Otherwise, 30 people already with the disease, would have been around your people.
"But now they are being taken care of in quarantine. This is the doing of God. May his name be glorified. We ask for exceptional wisdom, guidance for the President of the Republic and all those who take decisions that affect your people at a time like this,” he prayed.
Chairman of the Parliament Christian Fellowship Emmanuel Bedzrah prayed for forgiveness of sins for the nation.
Quoting portions of the Bible, the Ho West Member of Parliament said “we are praying that God will forgive us and cleanse us just as he said in his word in Isaiah 59:1… Even as we confess our sins and humble ourselves through this moment of fasting and prayers, we besiege our Lord God Almighty, the father of all nations that this plague of COVID-19 will pass us by.”
Chairman of the Muslim Caucus of Parliament Ben Abdallah Banda asked Allah for knowledge to help deal with the virus.
“We are told in the Holy Quran that all knowledge is from God because he is all-knowing… We are told by Prophet Mohammed that there is no disease on the surface of this earth that Allah has not created, cured or provided a cure for,” the MP for Offinso South said.
