The Education Minister has warned all heads of institutions across the country to desist from keeping final year students in school for whatsoever reason.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh stated that they would be left to their fate if they go contrary to government’s orders to send these students home.
“Any head of an institution that attempts to keep students in school does so at his or her own risk,” he said at a press conference.
According to him, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) which was responsible for organising examinations for primary and secondary schools had put its upcoming activities on hold.
The Minister emphasised that the directive to send all students home was compulsory for every school nationwide.
“The schools’ closure is a total closure for both public and private schools. It is a total closure of all closure within the country Ghana.
“All international exams even in their parent countries have been cancelled. There is absolutely no reason for a school in Ghana here to try to keep students in the school,” he reiterated.
In a televised address the President ordered the closure of all educational institutions with effect from March 16, 2020.
Currently, 52 people have tested positive for the virus with two deaths recorded.
