Government has announced a temporary closure of the VIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport effective Saturday, March 21, 2020.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, this has become critical to securing the country’s entry points against further importation of the deadly coronavirus disease.
Ghana has recorded 16 cases of the disease which has killed over 10,000 people across the globe.
Ghana has yet to record a fatality but there are indications the confirmed cases could rise in the coming days.
Earlier this week, the government announced its decision not to grant entry to non-citizens from countries that have recorded 200 or more cases of the coronavirus as part of measures to contain the spread.
The VIP Lounge is usually accessed by diplomats, international organisations and the honorary consulates accredited to Ghana.
Following the closure, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has directed all inbound passengers, including emergency cases, to use Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport and go through arrival and departure protocols.
