The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Nominations Jam has been postponed following confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country.
Organisers of the Awards, Charterhouse, in a press statement on Wednesday, said that event their decision to hold off the event is influenced not only by the President’s directives but the interest to put public health first amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“A new date will be announced later, subject to further National Directives on Public Gathering. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the statement said.
The 2020 VGMA nominees jam was scheduled to take place at Jackson Park in Koforidua on April 4.
Charterhouse added, “we would like to use this opportunity to remind the general public to follow the preventive measures issued by the Ghana Health Service and comply with Government’s recent directives on Public Gathering, which are aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.”
Aside from Charterhouse’s jam, other shows have also been cancelled to comply with the social distancing rule.
3Music Networks cancelled their Fanfest, scheduled ahead of the 2020 3Music Awards after Ghana recorded the first two cases of coronavirus.
Artistes like Stonebwoy, Sista Afia, Davido and others have cancelled their concerts after the virus was named a pandemic.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases in Ghana has risen to nine - a week after the country recorded its first two cases.
