Police in Uganda will from next month launch changes aimed at ending discrimination against female officers in the service, local Daily Monitor reports.
The paper reports that the police had completed a review of the employment rules that were last amended in 1984.

The changes include dropping the honorific "sir" when addressing female officers, redesigning uniforms for police women, and awarding promotions.
"Female police officers had to seek permission from the inspector general of police to get married to a civilian. A female officer was [also] referred to as sir," Police Chief Political Commissar Asan Kasingye is quoted as saying about the current employment rules.
Police boss Martins Okoth-Ochola said more female officers would be employed.
