The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago says his country and Ghana have shared interests in the Agricultural sector.
While delivering his speech during Ghana’s 63rd Independence Anniversary celebration at Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Keith Rowley, who was the guest of honour said both Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana have an interest in cocoa trade.
Dr. Rowley recounted that Ghana hosted the first-ever round table discussion on sustainable cocoa economy in 2007 while the Caribbean country did same in 2009.
The Agric sector, Rowley noted, provides food security for the people which then translates to income security.
The Prime Minister added that his country is interested in more collaborations with Ghana in the cocoa sector; highlighting the need for linkages in the cocoa management bodies of Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo used his speech on the day to call for togetherness after lamenting what he said are wasted opportunities which hindered the country from attaining its economic breakthrough.
According to him, such wasted prospects have cost Ghana its development in the infrastructure sector, leading to the deficit the country now battles with.
However, he believes despite the country’s shortcomings, there is a need to be joyous for the feats the country has attained.
“At 63, we know that we have squandered many opportunities that, properly utilized, would have brought us to the economic breakthrough to which we aspire.
“We lament and rightly so, the infrastructure deficits that plague all sectors of our lives, and the considerable number of our people who still live in poverty.
“But, if truth be told, we have a solid reason to rejoice and be thankful to the Almighty, for this is a blessed nation,” he said.
