The National Road Safety Authority has cautioned motorists using the Accra-Kumasi highway as the nation marks Independence Day today, March 6.
The Authority said in a press release Friday that the activities planned for the Independence Day celebration in Kumasi has increased the level of motorisation on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
“The high traffic volume on the corridor is predicted to last the period of the celebration and the long weekend.
“The Authority wishes to caution the general public especially road users to observe best road safety practices during the period and particularly on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. Drivers are expected to observe the speed limits, avoid driving tired and exercise proper care when overtaking and driving at night,” the Authority said.
The Authority has urged passengers to play frontline roles to keep the roads safe by speaking up against any practices or conduct that increases the risk of road traffic crashes.
Pedestrians have also been admonished to cross the street at only approved or designated crossing points.
“Road safety is a way of life. Let us commit to being better road users as we spend time with our family and friends,” the statement said.
