The Estate Department of the Ghana Police Service has submitted what it says is a comprehensive plan to provide accommodation for officers.
The police administration says it is making stringent efforts to improve service conditions for personnel, particularly in the area of housing. Inadequate accommodation for the police has forced the administration to hold on enlistments for this year.
The 2008 performance audit report by the Auditor General on management of police accommodation quotes 58 percent of police officers are inappropriately housed.
Director of Police Public Affairs DSP Kwesi Ofori tells Joy News providing new accommodation structures is a top priority of the new IGP.
The police administration’s decision to suspend its annual recruitment for 2009 has raised concerns about effective policing in the country.
But DSP Kwesi Ofori again says effective strategies have been put in place.
