Two Ghanaians Ellis Atekpea, Executive Director of Ghana Home Loans and Otiwaa Oduro-Kwarteng, a staff of Nestle Ghana Ltd are on their way to join the excitement at the on-going FIFA Confederations Cup Tournament 2009 currently underway in South Africa.
The FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 kicked off to a thrilling start on Sunday June 14, with host nation South Africa holding a goalless draw against Asian champions Iraq in the opening match. Spain, 2008 European Champions the other hand, beat New Zealand 5 goals to nothing in the second encounter of the day.
The two emerged winners of the of the VISA Card Promotion draw of the Stanbic Bank on Winning Promotion.
They get the privilege of watching Egypt play Italy on 18th June, a match which promises to be an exciting clash of champions: Italy are the 2006 FIFA World Cup Champions whilst Egypt are the 2008 African Cup of Nations Champions. Additionally, 48 other individuals have won assorted VISA branded consolation prizes, including T-shirts, baseball caps, bucket caps and pens.
The tournament which features 8 teams from across the world, is the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the 2010 FIFA World Cup also to be hosted in South Africa.
To ensure that the excitement was brought to Ghanaians and to reward their customers, Stanbic Bank collaborated with VISA, an official FIFA partner, to add the VISA Card component to the on-going Bank on Winning Promotion, which is slotted to end on 15th July, 2009.
At a presentation ceremony held at the Stanbic head office this afternoon, Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Public Affairs said Stanbic Bank was delighted to foot the bills of the two to South Africa to watch the match.
“This forms part of our larger campaign towards FIFA tournaments and is also a demonstration of the Stanbic Bank’s commitment to delivering excellent services to its customers as part of its corporate social responsibility”. He reminded the banks’ customers that the ultimate prize of a Mercedes Benz C180 is still up for grabs.
On his part, the Managing Director of the Stanbic Bank, Mr. Alhasan Andani said: “Sports is one of the things that unites Africa and Stanbic Bank will continue to show involvement in CAF sponsorships namely African Cup of Nations, African Nations Championships, African Youth Championships, CAF Confederation Cup & CAF Champions League”.
The prizes were presented to the winners by the head of Personal and Business Banking of Stanbic Bank Mr. Riaan Klopper.
Receiving the prize on behalf of Otiwaa Oduro Kwarteng, her brother, Kofi Amanin Oduro Kwarteng, said “Otiwaa is very happy with her prize. She will be in South Africa herself to watch the match and she plans to save more in order to win the ultimate prize of the Mercedes Benz C180. She is very grateful to Stanbic for organizing the promotion for their customers and encourages everyone to save with Stanbic”.
