The High Court in Accra has awarded five million cedis costs against the Attorney General's office for failing to comply with an order to restore Akuse to the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region.
The case was filed by a development chief of Osudoku, Nene Teye Titriku and some of his elders seeking to have Akuse under the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region and the court ruled in their favour.
However the decision of the court, which directed that Akuse be removed from under the Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region and be made part of the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region had not been complied with.
The town has always been under the Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region until a boundary report asked that it be placed under the Dangme West District.
The court also ruled that the names of Akuse and Amedeka be deleted from the Manya Krobo District Assembly.
Speaking to newsmen after the ruling, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheik I. C. Quaye said he is happy that the people of Akuse have justice at last and warned the Manya Krobo District assembly against holding any further meetings at Akuse.
He also said he was not surprised at all at the ruling because the fact had always been known.
Former District Chief Executive for Dangme West, Tetteh Korli Agban asked the Attorney General to effect the amendment immediately to reflect the court’s decision.
