The embattled Youth and Sports Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, says he is confident he will be exonerated after investigations into allegations of financial malfeasance against him. He insists the allegations against him are fabricated, exaggerated and aimed at doing him in. "Almost everything in there is a big lie, you can see categorically that some group of persons are just out for me." There have been allegations of outrageous claims of various sums of money leveled against the minister. Following the allegations, president J.E.A Mills asked him to proceed on leave whiles the issues are investigated. Alhaji Mubarak thanked the president for the opportunity to explain himself and for launching an investigation into the allegations. He told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that if thorough investigations are done, his innocence will be established. Quoting from the Financial Administration Act, Alhaji Mubarak said granted that the claims were made by him, it behoved the chief accountant to not to authorize payment. According to him, it is the responsibility of his secretary to make claims on his behalf. He said it was therefore preposterous for the chief accountant at the ministry to accuse him of personally making claims. Touching on issues of pampers and baby oil, he denied ever seeing the claims but will not explain further. On the specific issues of claims of GH¢10,000 for landing charges for the CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast, he said there could be “momentary lapses in judgement.” Alhaji Mubarak avoided discussing the specifics of the about 17 allegations made against him. He however insisted many of them were false allegations peddled by people who are uncomfortable with the changes he made in the ministry. Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
