Black Stars boss Avram Grant says Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara should be severely punished for his vicious challenge on Asamoah Gyan, a tackle that could see the player miss the crucial semi-final clash against hosts Equatorial Guinea.
Yattara was given his marching orders by Zambian referee Sikazwe and the Ghanaian manager is adamant that the goalkeepers punishment should not end there.
“What happened with this goalkeeper, what happened to Gyan is an opportunity to CAF to protect the players. When a goalkeeper deliberately injures a player at 3-0, this is unacceptable.
It was only a few centimeters from a part of the player’s body which could have made it difficult for Gyan to play football for some time. This player should be banned for a long time. I wait to see the punishment for this goalkeeper. For me I don’t want to see this goalkeeper on the pitch again," he said.
CAF’s disciplinary body would review the incident to decide whether Yattara’s suspension should be a lengthier one.
