The country’s largest transport organization, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says it will resist attempts by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to implement a proposed urban transport scheme due to begin next month. The project aims at addressing the perennial traffic congestion in the metropolis and improves bus mobility to reduce long commuting time. Principal Industrial Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Issah Khaleepha told a news conference in Kumasi that the private commercial sector which carries 97 per cent passengers was not consulted. He said the union is considering options including a sit down strike to compel the KMA to suspend the plan to allow for more consultation. Story by Elton John Brobbey
