The Ghana Police Service has set up a special unit with the intention of providing closure to the many murder cases recorded in the country.

“It is a special unit set up by the Inspector General of Police and the police administration to look into murder cases which have kept long on the files,” the Director General of the Ghana Police Service's Public Affairs Department, DCOP David Ampah Benin explained to Joy News.

The Service today inaugurated a seven-member committee codenamed –Cold Case - to immediately begin investigations into murder cases, find perpetrators and propose recommendations.

DCOP David Ampah Benin said the committee has begun investigating six cold murder cases, including that of the MCE of Nkwanta South in the Volta Region.

He said members of the committee were selected from different backgrounds with specialty in crime and related cases to spearhead the investigations.

The committee’s work would be supervised by two former director generals of the Criminal Investigations Department, Mr. Adu Poku and David Asante Appiatu.
