All is set for the much anticipated decongestion exercise promised by the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Dr. Alfred Vanderpuije.
The exercise to decongest the city’s streets of unauthorised structures and hawkers begins Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly approved a three-month action plan to guide the execution of the decongestion exercise.
The AMA boss told Joy News the exercise will bring sanity to the capital and ensure free traffic flow.
Justifying the decision, Dr. Vanderpuije said no meaningful development can take place in the capital under the current mess.
He said with the support of the security agencies, the notorious brothel at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Soldier Bar, will be demolished.
