The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in collaboration with other security agencies would demolish Soldier Bar, a popular brothel at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, as part of its decongestion exercise.
Mr. Alfred Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive who announced this said the exercise was to ensure sanity and beautification of the nation's capital.
He announced this after a two-day familiarization tour to departments under AMA and some market centres.
Areas visited were, Accra Metropolitan Sewage Department, Waste Management Department, Public Health Department, Roads Department, Kaneshie and Makola markets.
Mr. Vanderpuije expressed shock and disgust at the horrible conditions under which people, including children, practiced prostitution at the brothel, adding “It is the duty of AMA to protect the interest of all manner of people including children and would not hesitate to demolish the structures”.
