An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Mahamadu Iddrisu on Friday sentenced Elijah Nuamah Osang, a driver to 15 years imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery.
He pleaded guilty while his accomplice, one Yaro is on the run.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reynolds Agyemang, prosecuting, told the court that Mr. George Ansah, a driver is the complainant and resides at Kasoa, while other two complainants Natasha Asinyo and Patience Donkor, both traders, live at Pokuase.
He said the accused, a driver resides at La.
The prosecution said on April 20, this year, at dawn, Ansah driving a Tata Indica Taxi cab was hired by the accused and his accomplice to send them to FENEK Night club at La.
ASP Agyemang said on reaching Zenith College behind the Trade Fair Centre, they attacked Ansah with cutlasses and took the keys of the taxi cab and later abandoned him at La EPP bookshop and drove away.
He said they drove to Danquah Circle where they were stopped by Natasha and Patience to take them to Pokuase.
The prosecution said the accused and accomplice however, drove the two women to a spot near El Wak Sports Stadium and attacked them with knives and robbed them of a lady’s hand bag, a mobile phone and GHc136 cash, left them and drove away towards La.
ASP Agyemang said the women were rescued by a joint police and military patrol team who pursued the robbers and found them at Danquah Circle, but they took to their heels when they saw the two women in the company of the police.
He said the police shot the accused on the hip, arrested and sent him to the Police Hospital for treatment while his accomplice, Yaro, managed to escape.
ASP Agyemang said the accused admitted the offence but could not lead the police to arrest Yaro who ran away with the hand bag containing the money.
The taxi cab was however retrieved.
