Information reaching Asempa News from the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo indicates that the Ghanaian Embassy there has been closed down. The cause of the closure, according to sources, was due to a misunderstanding between state police and a staff of the Ghana Embassy. According the sources, the wife of the Ghanaian staff, Stanley Famiah was arrested for not having a resident permit. When Stanley tried to intervene with the explanation that the wife was not in that country as an illegal immigrant, he was beaten up by the police. Mr. Famiah and the wife got injured in the process. Mr. Famiah was treated and discharged at a hospital in Malabo whilst the wife who was already sick was admitted. The sources add that, this resulted in chaos between the staff of the Embassy and the police. When Asempa News contacted Mr. Famiah, he confirmed the incident but declined to explain what happened and said a report was being prepared for the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
