At least ten suspected criminals were on Friday morning hounded out of their hideouts at Dzorwulu, Accra, by the police.
The exercise to rid the city off miscreants is code-named “Operation Dragnet”.
ACP Richmond Nii Boi-Bi-Boi, Director of Operations, Police Headquarters, who led the operation told Joy FM’s Dzifa Bampoe that the scoop was mounted based on intelligence information and hinted similar exercises would be carried out in different parts of the capital unannounced.
To ensure that innocent people are not detained wrongly, those arrested in the operations had their fingerprints, statements and photographs taken and pencilled for a speedy screening and prosecution.
“The moment we brought them we started the investigative process…we do not want to keep them for a very long time…immediately we send them to court”.
In a related development, about 15 people have been arrested in Kumasi for allegedly looting from the burnt Kumasi Central Market.
The police said the suspects, mainly males, are in police custody charged with unlawfully carrying away assorted items belonging to traders.
