The former boss of Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) Dr. Alex Tweneboah is in the grips of the police for allegedly engaging in SIM box fraud.
Dr Tweneboah and 17 others were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) within a seven-month operation which was in collaboration with the National Communications Authority and SUBAH Info Solutions Ghana Limited.
The officer who led the operations ASP Seth Tewornu confirmed the arrest of Dr. Tweneboah to Joy News.
Meanwhile, at a media briefing today, Director General of the CID, DCOP Prosper Agblorh said the nation has lost more than one hundred million cedis as a result of the practice.
“This is one of the biggest and most successful operations by the task force,” he said.
He noted that about 21,232 SIM cards were recovered from one operator.
DCOP Agblorh said the taskforce is determined to pursue the fraudsters and warned those engaged in the fraudulent activity to desist from the practice.
“We want to serve notice to the fraudsters that their days are numbered,” he asserted.
