Mr. Kwabena Osei-Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of Kick Malaria Out of Africa, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has called on Ghanaians to immortalize Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana.
He explained that the able leadership role played by the first President in uniting Ghana and Africa contributed to the development of the people on the continent and said that everything possible must be done to honour him as his 100th birthday got closer.
Mr Osei-Bonsu made the call when Dangme West Mango Nursery Producers Association donated 1,000 seedlings worth 2,500 Ghana Cedis to the NGO at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region on Monday.
The donation was in support of the NGO’s tree-planting exercise that formed part of activities to mark Dr Nkrumah's Centenary Birthday, which begins on May 16 and ends on, the birthday of the first President, September 21.
Mr Osei-Bonsu said Dr Nkrumah stood for unity, peace and stability and that the role he played in liberating Africa should be embraced by all.
He said the Cashew Department of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Seed Production Unit of the Cocoa Service Division had provided the NGO with 11,200 cashew seedlings and 4,200 cocoa seedlings respectively to support the exercise.
Mr Osei Bonsu thanked farmers from Anum Apapam, schools in the Afram Plains in the Eastern Region, and Awutu Traditional Council, led by Nai Okpei Saah IV, for supporting the exercise.
He called on other individuals and organization to support the NGO to achieve its aim of immortalizing the great man of Ghana.
Members of Keep fit clubs, religious organizations, market women associations and civil service organization would take part in exercise.
