Hungry purchasing clerk loses bicycle, money

An 18-year-old man who stole a bicycle parked by a purchasing clerk and a parcel containing GH¢1,000 which was tied to it has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the Sampa District Magistrate Court in the Brong Ahafo Region. Willie Kwasi John (accused) pleaded not guilty to stealing, but was found guilty by the court, presided over by Mr. Kwasi A. B. Asubonteng. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Godfred Kwayisi Ansah told the court that on April 17, this year, the complainant, Obeng Isaac, who is a purchasing clerk for a cashew nuts company, collected a cash amount of GH¢1,000 to purchase cashew nuts at Jamera near Sampa in the Brong Ahafo Region. He said at about 5.30p.m Obeng kept the money wrapped in his shirt on his bicycle which he rode to Jamera. The prosecutor said on reaching Jamera, Obeng stopped at a cooked rice spot to buy some and therefore parked his bicycle behind. Inspector Kwayisi Ansah said while Obeng was buying the rice, Willie Kwasi John, (accused), quietly came to the spot and rode the bicycle away together with the items on it. According to the prosecutor, after buying the rice, Obeng turned to take his bicycle, but it was nowhere to be found. Obeng lodged a complaint with the police at Sampa. Inspector Kwayisi Ansah said on April 18, Willie resurfaced in Jamera and was arrested by the Jamera Watchdog Committee and escorted to the Sampa Police Station. Source: The Spectator
