The German Government is expected to present a comprehensive set of new IT equipment to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) on Thursday April 30, 2009 at Teshie in Accra.
A press statement issued on Monday said the equipment that would includes more than 70 state-of-the-art computers, printers and photocopiers is worth a total of 150,000.00 Euro.
The donation, which is financed as part of the ongoing collaboration between the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the KAIPTC, is to assist the Centre to expand its institutional capacities in order to provide the needed training for peace support operations and crisis prevention measures in the West African region.
“Having been associated with the centre since its inception, the German Development Cooperation is aware of the critical role a functioning IT-system has played in bringing KAIPTC to its high level of performance as an ECOWAS-designated Centre of Excellence for Peacekeeping training and research in West Africa. The German Government is therefore happy to continue to contribute to its growth and functionality.”
GTZ is a German government-owned corporation that was established to promote international cooperation and contribute to sustainable development throughout the world.
It works on a broad range of themes including rural development, economic development and employment, environmental and infrastructural development, social development, and a wide range of cross-sectorial themes such as gender, crisis prevention, youth, HIV/AIDS control, emergency aid, poverty, food security, peace and security.
The GTZ Country Director to Ghana, Dr. Fred Brandl, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Accra, Mr Hans Christian Winkler and the Commandant of KAIPTC, Major-General John Attipoe, are some of the dignitaries expected to witness the ceremony.
