Teachers at the Atwedie D/A Primary School in the Asante-Akim South District who threatened to boycott classes in protest against defecation in their classrooms have rescinded their decision following a marathon meeting between them and the District Co-ordinating Director, Prempeh Sarpong-Siaw.
The meeting was aimed at persuading them to reconsider their decision as the district assembly was making efforts to bring the perpetrators to book.
The teachers have since been attending classes and assured the assembly of their preparedness to give off their best so long as the situation was addressed.
Mr Sarpong-Siaw commended them for their patience and dedication to duty, adding that the assembly would not relent in its efforts to clamp down on the canker.
Addressing a cross-section of the community, Mr Sarpong-Siaw expressed concern about the nefarious act that, he said, tarnished the image of the community.
He wondered why people preferred to defecate in classrooms after the assembly had built an ac-qua privy toilet facility in the community.
Mr Sarpong-Siaw said plans were underway to build a new classroom block to replace the existing one that has no doors.
