A late Jordan Opoku strike ensured Kumasi Asante Kotoko pip rivals King Faisal by a lone goal to lift the Asantehene Kings Cup played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The porcupine warriors dictated the pace for most part of the game, but strikers Kwabena Yaro and Stephen Manu messed up glorious opportunities to deny the defending league champions the much needed goal.
King Faisal showed lots of tenacity, but poor defending in the 85th minute caused them the biggest upset against their bitter rivals.
Jordan Opoku latched onto a loose shot from close range and slotted the ball past the King Faisal goal keeper for the priceless winner.
The victory comes as a relief to beleaguered coach Isaac Opele Boateng who has come under attack after series of inconsistent results.
The game was in commemoration of the ten years anniversary of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Kotoko had beaten Beechem Chelsea, whilst King Faisal thumped Sekondi Eleven Wise before the two converged at the finals of the competition
