Withdrawn Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour has officially handed over as Police Commander for the region.
His Deputy ACP Patrick Sarpong is now in charge of managing affairs in the region.
DCOP Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, who has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra, is alleged to have leaked intelligence to the media.
He was walked out of a recent Regional Security Council meeting by the Northern Regional Minister, Stephen Sumani Nayina for informing the media about some decisions the REGSEC had taken to extend a one-month moratorium given all residents of Tamale to surrender their weapons.
His subsequent withdrawal as Northern Regional Police Commander attracted widespread criticism with security expert, Dr. Kwesi Annin calling for the dismissal of the Northern Regional Minister.
DCOP Ofosu Mensah-Gyeabour, speaking at the handing over ceremony on April 21, thanked personnel of the Service for their cooperation during his time in office.
He charged them to remain steadfast and uphold the tenets of the Ghana Police Service in the exercise of their duties.
He commended the efforts of the media in the region for their cooperation throughout his stay in office.
