A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South district of the Eastern Region has remanded in the police custody a 21-year old convict for allegedly escaping from lawful custody.
The convict Isaac George Tweneboah pleaded not guilty to the charge and would re-appear on April 28 this year.
Tweneboah was earlier prosecuted on charges of stealing two bicycles upon which the same court, presided by Mr Kofi Akrowiah found him guilty of the offence and convicted him to a sentence of two years’ imprisonment.
Briefing the court, the prosecution said on March 12, this year Tweneboah, having been sentenced for stealing, was being taken to the Akim Oda police custody while handcuffed to be conveyed to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, but he managed to abscond.
According to the prosecution, the police officer who was escorting the convict raised the alarm and the police with the assistance of some members of the public gave him a chase and managed to arrest him.
