Asante Kotoko coach Isaac Opeele Boateng fears his side Premier League title defence dreams appears to be over after a rapidly declining season and now wants to concentrate on qualifying the team for next year's Champions League.
The champions trail Leaders and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak by eleven points and placed fourth at the end of the first half of the season.
Opeele took temporary charge of the club after the dismissal of Belgian Maurice Coleman and he admits it will be difficult to topple Hearts over at the top.
After their elimination from this year's competition, he reckons qualification to the Caf Champions League is his top priority.
He said: "Let us face fact and admit that it will be difficult to overtake Hearts because 11 point is no joke and the team is also playing well.
"My main aim now is to try and qualify the team to play in the Champions League next season because that is where Kotoko belong.
"The league is almost over for us and making an appearance in Africa next year is our only option," he added.
"But we will be sitting on the sidelines hoping for a slip from Hearts and then take over but that obviously is difficult."
