A High Court in Accra has dismissed a contempt case brought against the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) by its former General Secretary, Napoleon Kpoh and a former Chairman Alhaji A.Y.B. Salifu.
The two filed the contempt suit against the executive of the union following a recent national congress of the union organized earlier this year.
The court however dismissed the application and rather awarded a cost of GH¢4,500 against Mr Kpoh and Alhaji Salifu.
Lawyers of the two refused comment on the court’s verdict.
Sources close to the ICU say the union has other court cases to deal with, some of which were either initiated or instigated by Mr Kpoh.
An Interim Management Committee (IMC) appointed by the union in 2007 has since the commencement of duty been battling the union’s two former executives.
Mr Kpoh was ousted in August 2007 by the IMC following the expiration of his four-year tenure of office.
Dissatisfied with the decision, the former General Secretary went to court to challenge the IMC’s action, one of two other cases yet to be cleared at the High Court.
