A 65-year-old woman is in the grips of the law for molesting two of her nephews aged 10 and 15.
The children were brought to the capital by their auntie ostensibly to help them further their education but that was the beginning of their story.
According to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, instead of sending the children to school, the woman used them as cleaners in a guest house she runs.
The suspect is reported to have chained the children to a tree in many instances with the help of her son and subjected them to severe physical assault.
The Public Relation Officer of DOVVSU, Chief Inspector Irene Oppong told Joy News the victims showed signs of brutal mishandling.
She said one of the victims lost a tooth because a bucket was used to hit him.
They were fed once a day, she stated.
Chief Inspector Oppong said the children also went through the harrowing experience of having their finger nails removed forcibly.
In an attempt to escape, the children went to the Achimota-Kissiman where they were begging for money to use for transport to go back to Dewu in the Akuapim District of the Eastern Region.
One of the people they begged from, suspecting they were criminals lodged a complaint with the police leading to the arrest of the suspect – their auntie.
The woman, together with her son, are being processed for court.
