Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been sanctioned to support the officiating of the final match of the ongoing 8th CAF U-17 Championship in Algeria.
Lamptey, 34, will act as the fourth official for the final match between hosts Algeria and Gambia slated for Thursday, April 2 in Dar El Beida, Algiers.
Information gathered by GNA Sports from the CAF Secretariat in Cairo has Mali’s Karembe Ousmane directing affairs from the middle to be assisted on the lines by Bouende Malonga and Moussa Yanoussa of Congo and Cameroon respectively.
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Officer becomes the second Ghanaian to be named in the final match of a CAF-organized competition in recent times after Mercy Tagoe had the opportunity to handle a final match.
Unlike Tagoe who handled the final of the CAF Women’s Championship between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria in Malabo last, Lamptey will act as the fourth official.
Ref. Lamptey is on record to have handled the opening match between Algeria and Cameroon and the semi-final clash involving Algeria and Burkina Faso.
The cadet championship is the first major continental championship for the experienced referee since obtaining his Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) badge in 2005.
