A 29-year-old man suddenly went wild and cut up his two little children, aged seven and three years, with a machete at Kronum Kwapra, a Kumasi suburb, leaving one dead.
Charles Averbila, after allegedly committing the crime was said to have gone into hiding but was flushed out from his hideout a week later.
The older child died instantly while the other child is responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Briefing the Times, Lance-Corporal Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, said Charles Averbila claimed to have given GH¢90.00 to the wife, Felicia Mmaah, for safe keeping.
On March 24, he said, he demanded the money but the wife claimed he had not given any money to her. In the ensuing argument, his wife picked up the third born, aged 11 months, and left to report his conduct to his elder brother who lived nearby. She left the other two children behind.
Lance Corporal Ahianyo said that moments after the woman left, Charles dashed for a machete and attacked the children.
When the woman returned with his brother, they found the children in a pool of blood in the room.
Both Children were sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where the three-year-old is recuperating.
Charles was put before an Ashanti New Town Magistrate Court on Monday charged with murder and causing harm. He has been remanded into prison custody.
