The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman West has urged the Ministry of Energy to regularly update residents of the constituency on the oil exploration activities in the Saltpond area.
Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah expressed disappointment about how the people were kept in the dark about the exploration which began nearly four decades ago.
Speaking to the GNA at Saltpond, the MP held that there must have been some royalties accruing from the drilling over the 40 years, “even if it’s only a barrel of oil that is obtained a day”.
“No royalty has ever been paid to the chiefs and the people,” he added.
