Fifa has nominated Ghana legend Abedi Pele to work on the technical committee for the Confederations Cup tournament in South Africa in June.
Taking place from 14-28 June 2009, this year's edition of the FIFA Confederations Cup features Spain, Italy, Brazil, New Zealand, Iraq, USA, Egypt and hosts South Africa vying for the title of ‘champions of champions'.
Abedi’s duties will involve joining other technical brains to analyse matches at the tournament that involves continental champions.
Even though the 'Maestro' is yet to accept the offer, this is a major boost for his image and future prospects within Fifa.
"I have received the official letter and I am thinking about it before accepting the offer," Abedi told Ghanasoccernet.
"It is a tough task but I am happy to help in making this successful not for myself but for the entire continent of Africa."
The latest is the three-time African Footballer of the Year second major appointment with Fifa and third in world football affairs.
He is also a member of the football committee of the game's world governing body Fifa and an official ambassador for the 2010 World Cup.
The four stadiums in the South African host cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane/Pretoria, Mangaung/Bloemfontein and Rustenburg are virtually ready for action, as preparations go into overdrive ahead of the tournament's opening match between South Africa and Iraq at Ellis Park.
