A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old man to 120 months imprisonment for stealing a Urvan bus loaded with 90 bags of “Liby” powdered soap worth GH¢ 8,600 belonging to a Reverend Minister and a trader.
Kwadwo Appau pleaded guilty but his accomplice, Kwasi Bentum, is on the run.
Appau is facing another fraud charge and he will be brought back to court after two weeks.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh said Rev. Stephen Anning is the owner of the bus that was hired by a trader to convey the goods.
On March 10, the vehicle loaded with the goods and parked in front of the trader’s house at Anomangye was detected missing
Chief Inspector Fandoh said a report was made to the police followed by a radio announcement.
Two days after, the police had a tip off that the bus had been abandoned in a bush at Abenase. Police personnel went there and found it empty.
Later the police were informed that Appau had been found with some bags of the powdered soap and he was arrested.
He admitted the offence and mentioned Bentum as the one keeping the bags of soap in his room at Deduako and led the police there where 75 bags of the powdered soap were retrieved but Bentum could not be traced.
