Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been selected for the Africa U-17 Championship to be hosted by Algeria beginning this week.
Lamptey, 34, is one of the eight selected centre referees picked by the Confederation of African Football for the championship.
Despite his selection, Lamptey will have to pass a mandatory pre-tournament test some hours before the start of the championship.
The Under-17 event will be the first major continental championship for the Ghanaian referee since obtaining his FIFA badge in 2005.
A total of 17 match officials have been selected by Caf for the competition which starts on March 19 and runs till April 2, 2009.
