A Kumasi Circuit Court has granted a 60 million-cedi bail with one surety to be justified to Akwasi Opoku, a carpenter who inflicted several blade wounds on the face of Adu Poku, his colleague carpenter at Asokore-Mampong in Kumasi.
Opoku pleaded not guilty to the charge and would re-appear on March 30.
The counsel for the accused, however, told the court presided over by Justice Adutwum Mmorosah that his client committed the offence in the form of self-defence.
Police Chief Inspector Alice Ansah giving the facts of the case told the court that both accused and the complainant lived at Asokore-Mampong.
She said the accused person owed the complainant 250,000 cedis so he demanded the money and he failed to pay.
Chief Inspector Ansah said on March 7, this year at 2000 hours, Opoku met Adu at a junction at Asokore-Mampong and again demanded the money from him and in the course of that a scuffle ensued between the two.
The prosecutor said that resulted in a fight and the accused inflicted blade wounds on the complainant’s face making him bleed profusely.
Adu reported the case to the Asawasi police and was issued with medical form to attend hospital. The accused was then arrested and charged with the offence.
